The BEAR Program is part of the Child Life Institute. Our mission is to facilitate and encourage those activities that reduce stress and support adjustment for children and families undergoing hospital stays. We strive to maximize each child's potential while supporting family members in caring for their child's unique needs.

     The BEAR Child Life Specialist helps prepare children for medical tests and procedures by using dolls, pictures and words to help them understand their health care experience.

     Our Child Life team also provides children and adolescents with activites, games and toys based on their health and development level.

OUR CHILD LIFE PROGRAM INCLUDES:

• Preparation and medical play that encourage children to express fears, discuss their concerns and gain a sense of control.
• Helping children understand their diagnosis in an age appropriate manner.
• Supporting children and their families during hospitalization in order to promote optimum development.
• Advocating for the child's unique needs.
• Play opportunites to promote continued growth and development.
• Special events to promot normalcy such as holiday events, celebrations and birthday parties.
